Faith and Fellowship is a ministry that seeks to meet the spiritual needs of the mentally ill. Peacebuilder, Alexis Miller, is working together with this group to reach out and learn firsthand about persons with prolonged mental illness, and how to interact with them to meet their needs for spirituality and friendship. Faith and Fellowship is directed by Connie Rakitan and is hosted at St. Catherine of Sienna-St. Lucy in Oak Park. |

Horseback Healing is a student run organization that works in union with Friends for Therapeutic Equine Activities of Winfield. FTEA is a nonforprofit organization that specializes in the therapy of children and adults with disabilities. FTEA serves a variety of participants with a range of disabilities from physical, to mental, or emotional disabilities. The unique therapy, called hippotherapy, allows the participant to rebuild muscle strength, extend muscle flexibility, and to enhance social skills. Volunteers are needed to lead horses around the arena during lessons, sidewalk next to the participant during lessons, and to help in the overall care of both the horse and rider. SFHS SUMMER SERVICE TRIP 2008 |
Last year, 45 students and adults went to serve at a workcamp in Seminole, OK. Because of the great success, and the response for more opportunities, we are planning a trip to Minneapolis, MN, with Group’s Week of Hope. On this trip, you will be involved in service opportunities during the day and enjoy the same faith-building, interactive presentations in the evening.

Where : At several locations in and around Minneapolis
How : Travel by SFHS vans to the site; stopping for an overnight at a hotel, July 26

Our neighbors at Marianjoy are looking for student volunteers to work in areas of patient transport, reception, gift shop, physical or occupational therapy, medical library, dietary, Eucharistic Ministers and more. They hope to have volunteers that will commit to three or four hours per week. A formal application and training is available. Applications are also available in the Pastoral Ministry Department from Mrs. Mercadante.
