Do you feel like we just ended the school year a few weeks ago? I know I do, and now we are back in full swing. I know, it feels like you just read a newsletter from me and now you are getting another one! However, there are so many things going on around here that we need to stay on top of all the information.
We already have had a busy start to the school year. The PO Board and administration “kicked off” our 2007-2008 school year with the “New Parents Brunch” on Sunday, August 12th with mass, brunch and very important information for new families. Many thanks to Karen Vokaty and the hospitality committee for the putting this together. What a wonderful way to welcome the “New Community” of
St. Francis.
A huge THANK YOU to all the parents who have sent us their volunteer forms, we will be contacting you soon. We invite all parents to join us in making this school year even more memorable and successful than last year. So if you haven’t returned your volunteer form, please do so ASAP.
Curriculum Night has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 30, you will have an opportunity to buy the St. Francis phone Directory. My advice is to buy several, keep one at home, one at work, one in your car or wherever, you will need it often! Many thanks to Ann Feehan and Ellen Polzin for putting the directory together.
Spartan Wear will also be on sale that night. Deb Paulson, Karen Wons and Katie Woods have an awesome assortment of Spartan sportswear available. Be sure to show your Spartan Pride! Speaking of Spartan Pride, our fall sports program is well underway, come out and show your support for our student athletes.
Don’t forget our next big PO function is the Parents Social. This year it will be “Comedy Sportz” and will be held on Saturday, September 8th. The ComedySportz stage show offers a unique blend of fast, funny and smart improv comedy. The Red and Blue teams battle it out in front of a referee in games that the audience selects, and points are awarded based on how hard the improvisers make you laugh! After the show refreshments will be served in the Slant Dome. Be sure to get your tickets now.
Click Here to Order Online. ANY QUESTIONS, CONTACT ALLISON SIMMONS AT: 630-293-0740. Don’t miss this fun way to get to meet your fellow parents.
Just a few reminders, don’t forget to participate in the SAA 5k run on Sunday, September 16 th – a great way to kick-off homecoming week!
Our next Parent’s Organization meeting has been changed to Wednesday, Sept. 12th at 7:00 pm. Please join us!
Looking forward to seeing you at all the wonderful events here at St. Francis.
Sincerely,
Sue Ferraro

We will place jars in the cafeteria to collect coins, the jars with the most money (1-teacher, 2 students) will have to have their head shaven or pies thrown after school on Wednesday or Thursday in the Slant Dome. As in previous years, a short term freshman group will be offered during the first semester. Starting at a new school can be a difficult time in a young person’s life. The excitement of “starting new” is mixed with the sadness of leaving familiar territory. Students may be wondering: “What will it be like? Will I be accepted? Will I be successful? What study skills & test taking skills do I need”. Fears of change can be overwhelming for some young people. However, with encouragement, this transition can be a positive new start.
For all of the above reasons, the Guidance & Counseling Department will again offer the optional six-week group for freshman. This group will meet once a week during rotating class periods. The group, run by counselors Mrs. Rupp and Ms. Sullivan, will offer freshmen the opportunity to meet new people, to learn more about St. Francis and ask questions in a small, non-threatening environment. The second component to the freshman group will be to help students work on study skills and test taking techniques. Group size is limited and registration is required. The freshman group will start in early September.
Contact Info: If you would like more information on this group or on any of the other support groups available at St. Francis, contact Mrs. Rupp at ext 104 or email at arupp@sfhsnet.org . Sign-Up Deadline is Sept 3rd.
